Robert Parker: The tour de force in the J.J. Hahn portfolio is the 1998 Shiraz Block 1914 (you've figured it out ... 84-year old Shiraz vines). Four-hundred forty cases of this sumptuous, opulent, individualistic yet sensational Shiraz have been produced by winemaker Rolf Binder. The wine has a peppery nose with hints of blackberry, blueberry, volatile acidity, melted asphalt, Band-Aid(r), and some subtle wood (all American oak was used, of which approximately one-third was new). In the mouth, it is huge, chewy, distinctive, and a true blockbuster in every sense of the word. This rather large-scaled wine should age easily for 15-20 years and become slightly more civilized with cellaring.

Robert Parker: Impressive is the 1999 Shiraz Reserve, a 1,100-case cuvee aged 14 months in new American oak. The wine is a dense purple color, with a sweet, almost blackberry liqueur nose, and smoke, licorice, and oak in the background. Jammy and rich, with huge body, good purity, adequate acidity, and a long finish, this is an impressive, surprisingly large-scaled 1999. It should age well for 10-16 years.

Mitolo bedeutet Mythos - zu einem solchen ist das Weingut Mitolo in Australien l�ngst geworden. Kellermeister Ben Glaetzer hat mit seinen schweren Rotwein so ziemlich jeden Preis gewonnen, von den Weinkritikern werden die Rotweine aus Shiraz und Cabernet Sauvignon regelm��ig in den h�chsten T�nen gelobt. Allen voran die der Mitolo Serpico Cabernet Sauvignon und der Mitolo Savitar Shiraz, sie sind in der kleinen aber feinen Mitolo Armada die Flaggschiffe: allesamt kr�ftige und opulente Rotweine, wie sie typisch sind f�r Australien. Dieser Shiraz von Mitolo wirkt sehr reichhaltig und zeigt uns einen kr�ftigen K�rper. Dabei erscheint er sehr ausgewogen, was die Tannine und die S�ure angeht. Die Aromen im Vordergrund wechseln sich ab. Wir erkennen Blaubeeren, pralle Brombeeren und Lakritz. In der Mitte des Gaumens sp�ren wir Gew�rze und frisch gemahlenen Pfeffer. Der Nachhall ist unendlich lang.

Robert Parker: Other than the top cuvees of Penfolds' Grange, and the old vine Grenache and Astralis from Clarendon Hills, no Australian wines are richer than these offerings from Henschke - a winery that gets my nod as one of Australia's two or three finest producers. Each of these wines coats the mouth with glorious levels of jammy fruit, extract, glycerin, and silky tannin. They are all dense ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied, and capable of lasting at least a decade, and in the case of the 1991 Shiraz Hill of Grace, possibly 20+ years.
